One City on Two Continents

I live and work in Istanbul. I have been an Istanbulite since 1953. I have witnessed its transition from a medium sized city of 800,000 inhabitants to the current metropolis with a population of 14 million. I remember the times when automobiles waited in line for hours for a ride on the ferry to get to the other side of Bosphorus. Today we enjoy three bridges and two tunnels that connect the Asian and the European districts of the city. I feel I am privileged to be living here. I am fascinated with the range of cultures that this neck of the woods have fostered. Just a few years ago archaeologists have determined that people inhabited this town for at least 5,000 years. I have started this web site to share interesting information about Istanbul with the rest of the world.
